Buddy Project – Personal Guidance for Youth
During our EPJO lessons, we noticed that teachers and internal counselors often asked if our experts by experience could talk to students. To meet this need, we set up the buddy project.
Following successful pilot projects in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Leiden, the buddy project is now a permanent feature of the services offered by the Peter Faber Foundation.
The buddy project offers individual guidance to young people between the ages of 12 and 30 who need extra support. This may include young people at risk of falling into crime, but also victims of loverboy scams, (former) prisoners, and other hard-to-reach target groups.
Through personal conversations and guidance, our experienced experts help these young people find a positive direction.

The buddy program
Personal guidance
The Buddy Project offers young people intensive guidance for a minimum of three months. During this period, the buddy works closely with the youth.
What does a buddy do?
- Personal contact: The buddy visits the youth at least twice a week. This can be at home, but also at appointments such as at school or at a court hearing.
- Always available: Your buddy is available 24/7 via WhatsApp or phone for questions and support.
- Active guidance: Together with the young person, the buddy tackles problems and offers help where necessary.
- Future plan: We will look at interests, talents, and opportunities together to draw up a concrete future plan.
Buddy coaching on location
Customized coaching
Not every youth needs an intensive program. Sometimes, a few coaching sessions with an experienced professional are enough. A fresh perspective from someone with similar experiences can have a big impact and make all the difference.
Flexible coaching: Coaching can take place weekly for a specific period, tailored to the request for assistance.
On-site visit: The expert will visit the school, home, or, for example, a youth facility on fixed, agreed-upon days.
Deployment in schools: If there are multiple cases at a school, a buddy can be present at the school for a certain period of time. This way, he becomes a familiar face for the youths.
Applications
Request a buddy project
A buddy program can be requested by a community police officer, youth police officer, communicty support team, community centers, youth care organizations, parents, schools, the child health clinic or the municipality. Together, we will assess whether a buddy is the right form of support and whether funding is available from the municipality. The program will start as soon as the funding has been approved.
Due to the intensive guidance and our focus on quality, we can only offer a limited number of buddy programs each year.
Buddy coaching on location
For buddy coaching on location, there are several experts available, enabling us to help more young people. The costs can be reimbursed by the municipality, school, youth care, or parents/guardians.
